Artists statement:
I look through the lens of a camera for the abstract that nature creates. I am an abstract artist who works with acrylic and photography on sculpted canvas. I have studied in Banff School of fine Arts and have a four year diploma in Fine Arts from Ontario College of Art.
My inspiration can come from anywhere. I have been intrigued by the moon and the night sky in combination with the fluid motion of water. Or how the shadows fall in a narrow street in Florence. Through delveing into my images I pull out and isolate the abstract that exists in nature.
I explore my photographic imagery and applied it to canvas that is stretched onto stretchers of my own manufacture. Through delveing into my images I pull out and isolate the abstract that exists in nature. I print the images on canvas and apply a variety of acrylic techniques, stretching them onto variously shaped stretcher, producing a 3D efect that enhance the abstract nature of each image.
I view the shape and texture of the canvas as a catalyst to unlimited creativity. By combining multiple components into one cohesive piece I am able to explore yet another dimension to my art. I am fascinated and intrigued by how far I can push canvas from a traditional square or rectangle to a new art form.
