I'm interested in images of places at rest - for a season, or at the end of their useful lives. These places, once active, are now silent, often ignored, and isolated even in busy surroundings. Their presence is often a surprise to me; something happened on rather than looked for.
I also photograph performers - primarly opera and burlesque. I'm particularly captivated by the artistry they bring to their work as well as the energy and joy that shine through when they're completely immersed in their performance.
These places have provided service to their communities, and it’s important for us to remember this. My intent is to continue exploring this theme.
I use a variety of film and digital approaches, including large format field, panoramic, toy and digital cameras. I personally prepare and print all my work digitally, using a large-format fine art printer, pigment-based inks and archival quality fine art paper. I produce most new work in limited editions – typically of 15-20 prints – and mount and frame them using archival techniques and materials.
My work is in a number of private and corporate collections, and was recently recognized as a finalist entry in the Third Annual Nature in Focus Environmental Photography Competition, and with a Corporate Purchase Award at the 2008 Artist Project Toronto.
