Artist Profile

Artists statement:

In 2004, I escaped from the cold, rainy weather of Scotland to settle here in Toronto. I served as a board member of the Artists’ Network during 2009, and I am also a regular contributor to shows including the Octopus Project, Square Foot, Riverdale Art Walk and The Little Art Show. Also, I am the founder member of SolidColour and Colourshift, two local abstract collectives.

I am heavily influenced by the English Arts and Crafts movement and Art Nouveau, especially Charles Rennie Mackintosh, whose works are an integral part of my native Glasgow. Acrylics have granted me the freedom to express these organic, sinuous forms whilst also allowing me to build up depth using translucent layers reflecting many years working with pastels.

Other sources of inspiration have been Josef Albers, travel, Clyfford Still, Wassily Kandinsky, tea, and Bridget Riley.

Upcoming Shows:

Riverdale Art Walk - Jimmie Simpson Park, June 4 & 5

SpeakEasy - Gladstone Hotel, June 2

SolidColour - Luc Sculpture, October 4 - 16

SolidColour - Wychwood Barns, June 11 - 12 & Dec 10 - 11
