For most visual artists, writing their artist statement ranks right up there with going to the dentist (apologies, to all you dental workers, but its true!). As visual people we all believe that our work speaks for itself. But in the competitive world of money and exposure visuals are simply not enough. EVERY opportunity – especially those with juries or selection committees – will require an artist statement to literally opening the door to your work. Short, succinct and convincing! At less that 100 words this is probably the hardest thing you will ever have to write. Without it your beautiful imagery will simply not be considered.

Just like your creative process, there is no guaranteed formula to writing an effective artist statement. This workshop will focus on how to avoid the common mistakes. But will also give you a process by which you can develop an artist statement that truly enhances the engagement with your visuals.

Detailed examples and handouts will be available.
