HUMANTIME: A REALLY BIG PICTURE ABOUT ART

Would you love to deepen your knowledge of visual art, establish a greater depth to your practice and find your niche in this world?

Please join us for a seminar HUMANTIME– A REALLY BIG PICTURE ABOUT ART – PART I by artist Martha Johnson

Martha Johnson has developed a series of “Big Concept” lectures that navigate human history and the narrative of making art. She speaks to artists that may not have had the opportunity to study visual art directly and are looking to establish depth in practice as well as finding their niche.

Accessibly referencing the beginning of human creativity, Martha connects work associated with western civilization/culture, important archeological structures, earthworks, Indigenous artworks to universal concepts. Moving across many cultures and modes of creation the story of “HUMANTIME” is eye-opening, filled with humour, connection and ignites art-making practices.

Works explored range from Paleolithic painters, footprints of ancient earthworks, Benin mud structures and contemporary artists such as Shary Boyle’s profound mythology and James Turrell’s Roden Crater.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a 2 Part Series. Artists do not need to attend the first to get value from the second but it is recommended to do both.

FIRST EVENING (Zoom, March 29, 2023)
Beginning with the arc of image-making, Martha accessibly links works associated with western civilization, important archeological structures, Indigenous artworks and universal concepts. Moving across many cultures and modes of creation the story of “HUMANTIME” is eye-opening, filled with humour, and ignites art-making practices, leaving participants with a  greater sense of universal connectivity and access to their personal creative modes and impulses.
